Stockport's Achievements

Stockport Economic Alliance oversees the Economic Development Strategy and is proud to acknowledge achievements made by a range of partner organisations, to the benefit of both the businesses and residents of Stockport.

The list below provides an overview of achievements linked to the Economic Development Strategy between April 2015 and March 2018:


  • Inward Investment

£80m of investment by commercial/industrial occupiers creating over 5,700 jobs.


  • Digital Connectivity

£15m Get Digital Faster programme completed bringing additional connectivity to an additional 4,800 premises across Stockport and providing 99% coverage of Superfast broadband.


  • Stockport Business and Innovation Centre

The Pioneer 10 Programme, hosted by Stockport Business and Innovation Centre, supports young businesses in their development and growth.


  • New Business Start Up Programme

Delivered via the Business Growth Hub, all potential entrepreneurs now have access to funded start up business support.


  • Business Networking

Local networking initiatives such as the Stockport Business Awards and Meet the Buyer, are supported by the Alliance, helping to build a stronger and more connected business base.


  • Stockport Exchange

Phase 2 of Stockport Exchange development completed in January 2017 comprising Holiday Inn Express and 43,000 sqft office accommodation for Music Magpie and Stagecoach.


  • A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road

A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road progressed, creating a new 2-lane dual carriageway on an east-west route from the A6 near Hazel Grove via the 4 kilometres of existing A555 to Manchester Airport and the link road to the M56.


  • Redrock Stockport

The Redrock leisure development was completed in November 2017 with restaurants Zizzi and Pizza Express and The Light Cinema being the first to open.


  • Town Centre Access Plan

Work progressed on the £73m Town Centre Access Plan which considers access by all methods of travel and specifically aims to ease congestion for buses and general road traffic and encourage walking and cycling, as part of an ambitious vision and development framework for investment in the town centre.


  • Aurora Stockport

145,000 sqft of light industrial units completed and 80% occupied at new business park, Aurora Stockport. 


  • Town Centre BID

Supporting the implementation of the Stockport Town Centre Business Improvement District which was established in 2017 via Vision Stockport. The BID company, Totally Stockport, delivers a range of initiatives to improve and promote Stockport Town Centre.


  • Market and Underbanks

Townscape Heritage Initiative funding of £1.8m awarded towards the regeneration of the Market and Underbanks area.


  • Jobs Fair

Annual Jobs Fair attracted over 700 visitors in 2017 and is known to have secured jobs for at least 60 people.


  • Gander

Gander which aims to bring business and education together provided opportunities for over 2000 students to engage which local businesses proactively.
